Thursday, FebruReview: The Deep by Nick Cutter Posted by Giselle ![]() ![]() Seeing how that depression affected their relationship, especially when it starts to come under strain, was really interesting, and struck all sorts of uncomfortable chords within me. I have to commend Claire Douglas for the way in which she approaches mental health in this book: it’s interesting, relevant and also uncomfortably relatable, as Kirsty (the heroine) and her husband, Adrian, buy and do up an old house in Hywelphilly (looked it up: doesn’t exist, sadly!), a small village in the Brecon Beacons, to get away from London and from the depression that Adrian has been suffering from for the past year. This was a great thriller- if a little uneven in places- that really tapped into that sense of claustrophobia and uncertainty that you feel when moving to a new place. ![]() Before I get stuck into this review, let me just mark this auspicious occasion by saying: hooray! A book that’s finally set in Wales!!
